Recognising genuine HMRC contact emails

with No Comments

HMRC emails have long been used by scammers to try and entice you with “tax refunds” or other rebates into entering personal details, including bank account information, into fake websites.

First and foremost, HMRC will never ask you for your bank details by email, and whilst they send the majority of communications by post, they do also send emails.

To assist you in determining if an email from HMRC is legitimate, a list of active email campaigns and other digital communications can be found on HMRC’s website.

As with all of our tax tips and web pages this information is necessarily summarised and of a general nature.  If you would like detailed specific advice please contact us.
