DIY PAYE changes set for 2014/15

HMRC plans to implement two new services granting greater control to directors and employees over their tax codes.

1)      Directors and employees are now able to notify HMRC if they think their tax code is incorrect. A simple online form will now allow users to contact HMRC directly. You need to follow this link to access the page, which proceeds to ask a list of questions covering your basic details through to what should be included in your code number.

Please note: It is now too late to use the service for the current tax year, but it is already in place for 2014/15.

2)      A new online service, “PAYE for Employees”, is scheduled for launch in April 2014. The service will allow users you to view their 2014/15 code number on-screen and make alterations where they see fit. If HMRC approves the changes, a new code will be issued. Initially, the benefits in kind will be the only aspect users are able to change. Later this year HMRC have stated that users will be able to make other types of adjustment, too.
