Our specialism at Green Accountancy is practical, relevant best practice accountancy and taxation services for freelancers, contractors, consultants and small businesses.
We have detailed knowledge and significant experience in many of the sectors that freelancers, contractors, consultants and small businesses operate in.
Contractors and consultants We have detailed knowledge and experience of working with single person limited companies. The accountancy and taxation affairs of our contractor clients are mainly straightforward, and our fixed fee of £75+VAT per month reflects this. We understand the importance of getting things right first time, every time and without delay: our guarantee reflects this. The mechanisms of agencies, contracts, operating a company, insurance, banking, VAT, salary, dividends and taxation are all firmly part of our core skills. We are particularly experienced, and specifically qualified, in giving IR35 advice, contracts, contract reviews and dealing with related enquiries from HM Revenue and Customs.
High Street Working with retailers, restaurateurs and hoteliers has formed a large part of our sixteen years of experience. The particular needs of shop owners are well known to us. These include accounting systems that deal with retail takings, point of sale, stock, payroll often with employee changes, VAT, management accounts, cash flow forecasts and expansion into web based shopping or booking systems.
Our experience of working with retailers includes delicatessens, repairers, home and office suppliers, hairdressers, newsagents, stationers, gift shops, pharmacies, cycle shops and all types of clothing retailers. Our experience with leisure related business clients includes guest houses, gardeners and garden centres, hotels and many restaurants.
Services and Professionals Business people operating service businesses require clarity and simplicity in their systems. A robust and effective credit control system is vital, as is reliable VAT, payroll and management accounting systems. There may be a need for project costing, so long as it is simple, quick to use and provides useful timely information.
We have provided many accounting systems and accounting and taxation services to a wide range of service companies and professionals. These include bookkeepers, cleaning companies, design and marketing, financial services providers, internet-based providers, letting agents, estate agents, marketing companies, nurseries, consultants in many sectors, removal firms, surveyors, project managers and training providers.
Construction industry and trades Every construction project requires project or job costing of some description. This can be from the most elaborate computerised system to the simple act of a tradesman mentally estimating or remembering the time and materials required for a particular job. Of course the basics such as payroll (if employees are used), VAT (if registered) and accounting and taxation are all relatively straightforward.
We have worked with many types of businesses in the construction industry. Self employed floor fitters, carpenters, plumbers, shop fitters, exhibition installers and mechanics are some of the trades-people that we have provided concise annual accounts and tax return service to. We also have experience of working with larger companies including heating engineers, electrical engineers, flooring companies, general builders, development companies and environmental service companies.
The “trades” sector is wide ranging. We have worked alongside printing companies, machine part manufactures, bakers, leasing companies and car dealers to name a few.
Individuals with investments Not everyone that requires a tax return is operating a business. Activities such as share ownership, share options transactions and letting will all create the need for a tax return. We are experienced in dealing with high net worth individuals, including owners of a prominent stock broking company, landlords, from one to fifty properties, and those with investment portfolios. We can provide inheritance tax planning advice and full capital gains tax service.
Branches and subsidiaries of overseas companies Many small businesses in the UK may be a branch or subsidiary of an overseas company. These are often distributors of products manufactured by overseas parent companies. Such businesses need reliable and timely management information that meets all of the needs of the overseas owners.
We have built great relationships both with UK managers and overseas owners and representatives. We have worked with owners based in France, Germany, Italy and the United States. Whilst we do not advise on taxation or legislation outside of the UK, we do understand the interactions of UK legislations with other countries and the import of goods to the UK.
Farms Having prepared the accounts and tax returns for a number of farmers of mixed farms throughout Oxfordshire, we understand what we can and cannot do for farmers. We cannot look out of the farm kitchen window and “name that tractor in one”. We cannot advise on the latest fluctuations in the price of grain or organic manure.
We can, and have on many occasions, provide a great business accounting service to farmers who are not looking for a one stop advice shop. If you want a modern approach to accounting with fixed and clear fees and totally reliable service then we can provide your needs. We understand the economics of single payment scheme, organic farming and how to present your farm business to its best advantage.
Charities We have particular expertise in working with charities. We have worked in detail on the application of project or job costing to grants and funds, and using the Charities SORP. This has included working with auditors, preparing for Government grant audits, creating carbon emission tracking systems and other financial work to meet funder’s requirements.
Environmental Issues In all of our work we primarily focus on the business, financial and taxation aspects. These are given as best advice without dilution or compromise. We then, where appropriate or specifically requested, look at any environmental aspects of a decision.
For example, if looking at the taxation of business cars it is important to calculate whether you will be better off with a company car or to own a car personally and claim mileage from your business. We will provide you with accurate information on this. We will also ensure you receive the information promptly and with all the facts, such as the tax and cost savings that a car with low emissions could offer.
We can also provide advice on reviewing your current environmental impacts, setting targets and reducing your impacts. Publishing such matters can be a delicate matter and we can help find the right line to take.
Whatever your business sector, we can offer an accurate accounting service providing best practice advice. Additionally we are always prompt, practical and environmentally aware in our work.
